• He is currently creating a new community for Marketers – MyMarketingLifeTM – that provides a locus for professional Marketers, and a link to major professional marketing membership organisations. This is a new venture and collaboration with business social networking provider Viadeo (membership two million) to capitalise on the respective strengths of both parties, and to realise David’s vision for supporting the professional Marketer.
• He was until recently the Vice President for Strategy of THE marketing leaders, a professional subscription opt-in community (independent membership of 30,000), a group set up to ensure robust and appropriate use and application of modern marketing practice and leading new technologies for profit.
• He has also served on the Chartered Institute of Marketing's (CIM) Scottish and Marketing Interest Group Boards and Councils, and represented the CIM within the Strategic Planning Society and has good links and reputation with other business Professional Membership Organisations (e.g. Institute of Direct Marketing, Institute of Sales and Marketing Management, Institute of Customer Service). David Chaired the CIM’s Technology group (presiding over growth from a few hundred to 70,000 subscribers).
• He is currently a co-opted Board member of competitiveScotland (the Scottish manufacturing sectors’ improvement organisation) to champion marketing as the means to improve competitive advantage. (Website)
• A Board member of the Scottish Partnering Forum Steering Group to develop best practice in bringing together two or more parties for mutual profit.
• Is on the UK’s Marketing and Sales Standards Setting Body (MSSSB) and is particularly interested in developing a means of accreditation and recognition for organisations to ‘gauge’ their effectiveness at being ‘market-oriented and customer-centric’ and working to translate those standards into practical services and tools to marketers, salespeople and managers.
• Additionally, he has championed more appropriate formulation and delivery of CPD (Continuous Professional Development), believing in broader cross-discipline recognition for relevant, profitable marketing and management CPD effort, and demonstrating that marketing reaches across most disciplines and departments within the organisation.
• He continues to support the development of a ‘Futurecast TM Centre’ in Scotland to allow collaborating commercial and public organisations a window to future market trends and methodologies (providing the means for them to be more proactive and conceivably shape the future) and has been asked by Prof. Luiz Moutinho, Chair of Marketing at the University of Glasgow and Founder of the new Centre, to collaborate with this profoundly important project and ‘new business management science’.
